Product details

The STACKING BED by Rolf Heide, the space-saving stacking bed, has been making design history since 1966.

The dismountable stacking bed consists of four wooden parts as well as connecting elements and is complemented by a slatted frame and mattress. It is extremely space-saving, because several beds can be stacked on top of each other quickly and easily.

The timeless design of the original STACKING BED best epitomises Rolf Heide's design credo: simple, high-quality materials are brought together in an impressively logical way and are given their typical appearance by a single, ingenious idea: in this case through the sweeping rounding of the side panels (stackability).

The stacking bed can be used either as a single bed, double bed or as a spontaneous guest bed. The STACKING BED can also be used as a couch in combination with the matching back cushions and a mattress with removable fabric covers from our fabric collection. On request, we can also supply the STACKING BED as a comfortable futon bed in the size 140 x 200 cm.

Care instructions for solid wood and veneer

Naturally protected – with Remmers Worktop Oil [eco]

To ensure you can enjoy your solid wood worktop for many years to come, we treat it with the high-quality [eco] worktop oil from Remmers. The oil reliably protects the surface against moisture and stains without altering the natural character of the wood. The grain is emphasised, whilst the surface remains pleasantly natural and durable in everyday use. The oil forms a thin protective film and offers good resistance to common household liquids such as water, coffee, tea, wine or cleaning products.

The worktop oil is based on renewable raw materials, is vegan and contains no additives of animal origin. Furthermore, it has been tested as low-emission in accordance with the AgBB scheme and bears the EU Ecolabel. A declaration of safety for food contact is available for products intended for direct contact with food. Furthermore, the oil meets the requirements of DIN EN 71-3 regarding the migration of certain elements and thus complies with an important safety standard that is also applied to children’s toys.

Bed centre rail
For widths of 140 cm or more, we recommend using the centre rail for STACKABLE BEDS to stabilise the slatted base centrally. If two slatted bases are to be inserted into the stackable bed, the centre rail is essential. However, if a centre beam is used, the bed is no longer stackable.

Stacking beds
Up to ten beds can be stacked on top of one another.

Slatted bases
Our adjustable and fixed slatted bases are specially designed for the STACKABLE LOUNGER Slatted bases from other manufacturers are therefore generally not compatible.

With our slatted bases, we ensure that there is a small cut-out at both the head and foot ends. This is necessary to fit the slatted bases into the STACKABLE LOUNGER. Without this cut-out, the slatted base may collide with the screws on the brackets on the inside and therefore cannot be fitted correctly. Unfortunately, we are therefore unable to guarantee a precise fit for third-party slatted bases.

Mattress height
STACKABLE LOUNGER Classic:
Rolling slatted base + 140 mm thick mattress or solid wood frame + 100 mm thick mattress

STACKABLE LOUNGER Comfort:
Roll-up slatted base + mattress 140 mm to max. 180 mm high or solid wood frame + 140 mm high mattress

We recommend using our mattresses.

Gap between two STACKABLE LOUNGER Classic beds
The gaps that form in the Classic stackable lounger when two loungers are stacked depend largely on the respective position of the brackets and can therefore be adjusted to suit your own needs.

Load capacity
No restrictions on the frame.
Load limit is determined by the slatted base.

Scope of delivery and condition
  • Unlike most pictures of the STAPELLIEGE, the scope of delivery consists of just one lounger frame.
  • The slatted frame and mattress are not included in the scope of delivery.
  • The STAPELLIEGE is supplied unassembled and must be assembled on site; the relevant assembly instructions, as well as all necessary fittings and tools, are included in the delivery.
  • Assembly time approx. 30 minutes for one person

Packaging and weight
• 1 pack
• 6 kg per lounger plus slatted frame and mattress

Stacking, low-stack, high-stack? To ensure no questions remain unanswered, we have summarised the most important information below:

  1. What is included in the scope of delivery for the stackable lounger?
Contrary to what is shown in most pictures of the stacking lounger, the scope of delivery consists solely of a lounger frame. The slatted base and mattress are not included.
  2. What is the condition of the stackable lounger on delivery?
The stacking lounger is delivered flat-packed and must be assembled on site; the delivery includes the relevant assembly instructions as well as all necessary fittings and tools.
  3. Third-party slatted bases / cut-outs in our slatted bases
  4. What material is the stackable lounger made of?
It is manufactured from 9-ply laminated timber; the material thickness is 15 mm. You can find an explanation of our CPL coating on our blog.
  5. Which slatted bases & mattresses do we recommend?
The right mattress and the right slatted base for the stackable bed Depending on the stackable bed model, there are various possible combinations of mattress and slatted base. In this blog post, we provide an overview of suitable combinations and their comfort features.
    Go to the blog post
  6. Which slatted base heights, which mattress heights are compatible?
Classic: Roller slatted base + 140 mm high mattress or solid wood frame + 100 mm high mattress Comfort: Roller slatted base + 140 mm to max. 180 mm high mattress or solid wood frame + 140 mm high mattress. Please also refer to our FAQ ‘Gap between two stacked beds’.
  7. What exactly is the difference between ‘Comfort height’ and ‘Classic height’?
The difference is exactly 40 mm, i.e. the comfort height is 40 mm higher overall than the Classic version. When stacked, this results in a difference of 80 mm.
Classic stackable lounger: 235 mm when used individually, 400 mm when two loungers are stacked
Comfort stackable lounger: 275 mm when used individually, 480 mm when two loungers are stacked
  8. How much does the Classic / Comfort stackable lounger weigh?
The frame itself weighs (depending on the model) between 17-19 kg; including the slatted base and mattress, a daybed frame weighs approx. 39 kg.
  9. How wide is the stackable lounger as a double bed / when placed side by side?
The external dimensions of the stackable lounger are, of course, determined by the chosen width and length plus the thickness of the material. As a general rule, the external dimensions are +30 mm greater in both length and width. For internal dimensions of 900 x 2000 mm, this corresponds to 930 x 2030 mm. For a double bed consisting of 2 x 900 x 2000 mm loungers, the external dimensions would therefore be 1860 x 2030 mm.
  10. Can the ‘Comfort’ height and ‘Standard’ height models be stacked together?
Yes, that’s no problem. The ‘Classic’ and ‘Comfort’ versions can be stacked on top of one another. However, please note that placing the two versions side by side results in a height difference of 40 mm.
  11. How many stackable loungers can be stacked on top of one another?
We recommend not exceeding a stacking height of 10 loungers.
  12. What are the external and internal dimensions of the stackable lounger?
The internal dimensions correspond to the sleeping surface. The external dimensions are +30 mm wider than those of the sleeping surface. See also point 9.
  13. Maximum load / maximum weight of the stackable lounger?
The maximum load capacity of the stackable lounger depends largely on the slatted base chosen.
  14. Can the lounger also be used on its own?
Yes, the stackable lounger can also be used on its own. This turns the stackable lounger into a sort of futon bed.
  15. Is the stackable lounger the original?
Yes, this stackable lounger is the original from Rolf Heide. The design by the renowned designer dates back to 1966.
  16. What gap is created between the mattresses when two stackable loungers are placed side by side?
The gap between two mattresses is exactly 30 mm.
  17. Can you unstack or dismantle the lounger on your own?
We recommend that stacking and unstacking should always be carried out by two people.
  18. Can the FLAI ADD-ONS be fitted to the stackable lounger?
No, unfortunately the FLAI ADD-ONS are not compatible with the stackable lounger. This is due to the difference in material thickness between the two products. The FLAI bed has a material thickness of 18 mm, whilst the stackable lounger is 15 mm thick.
  19. How much storage space is there under the stackable lounger?
The distance between the floor and the sleeping surface is 100 mm for the Classic version and 130 mm for the Comfort version.
  20. Why is this bed particularly suitable for children’s bedrooms?
Thanks to the bed’s stacking function, one bed can be turned into two in no time at all. This means that one of the two loungers can be converted into a guest bed in no time at all.
  21. Where can I find spare parts and screw sets?
You can find screw sets here. For other spare parts, please contact Ms Uhlendorf. She is responsible for spare parts and complaints. Iris Uhlendorf, 04453 98 23 44, i.uhlendorf@muellermoebel.de
  22. How do I avoid different lying heights with different configurations
Please refer to our FAQ ‘Gap between two stackable loungers’ under "Technical Information".

FAQ

What does HPL and CPL mean?
CPL stands for Continuous Pressed Laminates. HPL stands for High Pressure Laminates (HPL with a thickness of > 2 mm are according to standard EN 438 compact panels).

What is special about the HPL coating on our black matte furniture?
Our HPL laminate impresses with its high abrasion, impact, and scratch resistance. It is ideal for horizontal as well as heavily used surfaces. The super matte surface feels velvety warm and is characterized by its excellent anti-fingerprint properties. This makes our HPL laminate unique and universally applicable.

Are there any special care instructions for our HPL coating?
The HPL coating does not require special care due to its resistant and hygienic, dense surface. The surface is generally easy to clean. It is important to note that sanitary cleaners or cleaning agents with abrasive components should not be used for cleaning, as such cleaners can cause changes in gloss level and scratches.

What distinguishes HPL and CPL?
The term CPL already provides a hint about the manufacturing process, meaning CPL is produced in continuously operating double belt presses with a pressing pressure between 30 and 70 bar and temperatures between 150°C and 170°C. Depending on the laminate thickness and press zone length, the feed rate varies between 8 and 15 m/min. HPL is produced in discontinuously operating multi-daylight presses with a pressing pressure between 50 and 90 bar and temperatures of > 120°C. Very often, the pressure in connection with the manufacturing process of laminates is also given in Mega-Pascals (MPa). The multi-daylight presses have between 10 and 20 levels, and each level accommodates approximately 8 laminate sheets with a nominal thickness of 0.50 to 0.80 mm. Depending on the press loading and the maximum temperature, the complete pressing cycle including cooling takes between 20 and 60 minutes.

Delivery through the retailer
Müller Möbelwerkstätten collaborates with a variety of furniture retailers. This allows us to have the furniture purchased from our online shop delivered to you through them. We send the furniture to the logistics center of the respective retailer, from where our competent partner takes over the processing of your order. They will contact you to arrange a delivery appointment and optional assembly booking.

1. Why is the goods not delivered directly to me?
In most cases, delivery through our retailer involves bulky goods that require increased logistical effort for delivery. If, for example, the order were delivered directly to you by a freight forwarder, this would correspond to delivery only to the curb. With our retailers, however, we have specially trained personnel who have been trained by us for the assembly and transportation of Müller Möbelwerkstätten furniture. Particularly noteworthy for the "delivery through our specialist retailer" service are:
Scheduled delivery according to desired date
Delivery behind the first lockable door

2. Are all furniture items delivered by the retailer?
No, in not all cases can we offer this service. This naturally depends on whether there is a retailer in close proximity. In addition, our small furniture items can regularly be shipped with a parcel service (GLS).

3. Assembly by our retail partner
Assembly can be booked separately at checkout in our online shop. The costs depend on the corresponding value of the goods. The option of assembly is, of course, not mandatory, but is recommended for selected furniture items due to their complexity. In addition to the actual assembly, this service offers further advantages:
Carrying upstairs to the apartment included
Subsequent disposal of packaging Furthermore, the service is recommended for selected furniture items due to their complexity, such as: Modular Plus wardrobe Plane wardrobe Flai wardrobe

Yes, in some countries (e.g., DE, AT, CH), we offer an assembly service. Click on "Premium Service" in the shopping cart, and your furniture will be assembled at your home by a specialist retailer for an additional fee.
