Under the theme “Good to Know”, we’ll be shedding light on all those interesting questions that arise in relation to our products. After all, we want to ensure none of your questions go unanswered!

So, let’s begin today with the term CPL

Many of our products – such as the STAPELLIEGE, the FLATMATE, and the beds FLAI / NOOK / PLANE and SLOPE – are available in the version “white CPL finish with birch plywood edge.” Simply put, this material is a birch plywood board (most often with a thickness of 18 mm), which is coated with a CPL surface. The application of this CPL coating to the birch plywood is carried out directly at our production site.

Now for the actual terminology

CPL stands for Continuous Pressed Laminates. You might be wondering: continuous what? Don’t worry – it’s actually quite easy to understand!

CPL is a laminate material created by pressing together multiple layers of paper soaked in melamine resin. The surface is sealed with a film of melamine resin, making the laminate extremely durable! The surface, for example, is resistant to solvents and heat, easy to clean, and wipe-resistant. And yes – even the little ones will benefit: the CPL coating also withstands light scratches, and is significantly more abrasion- and impact-resistant than many other surface finishes! Another major advantage is that CPL is lightfast and colourfast – meaning it won’t darken over time.
