The space-saving stack bed - designed by Rolf Heide

Since 1966, the STACK BED by Rolf Heide has been making design history. The dismantlable stack bed consists of four wooden parts and connecting elements, complemented by a slatted frame and mattress. It is extremely space-saving because multiple beds can be stacked on top of each other. The timeless design of the original STACK BED embodies Rolf Heide's design creed at its best: simple high-quality materials are brought together in an impressively logical way and receive their typical face through a single ingenious idea: through graceful rounding of the side cheeks.

The stack bed can be used as a single bed, double bed, and spontaneous guest bed, as well as a couch in combination with the matching back cushions and mattresses with removable fabric covers from our fabric collection. Upon request, we also deliver the STACK BED as a comfortable futon bed, for example in the dimensions 140 x 200 cm.

Center rail
From a width of 140 cm, we recommend using the center rail to stabilize the slatted frame centrally. If two slatted frames are to be inserted into the stack bed, the center rail is essential.

Stacking beds
Up to ten beds can be stacked on top of each other.

Slatted frames
Our adjustable slatted frame and fixed slatted frame are specially adapted for the STACK BED. Therefore, slatted frames from other manufacturers usually do not fit.
With our slatted frames, we ensure that a small recess, at the head and foot respectively, is present. This is necessary to insert the slatted frames into the STACK BED. Without this recess, the slatted frame can collide with the screws of the angles on the inside and cannot be inserted correctly. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee the accuracy of fit for third-party slatted frames.

Mattress height

Classic: Roll-up slatted frame + 140 mm high mattress or solid wood frame + 100 mm high mattress

Comfort: Roll-up slatted frame + 140 mm to max. 180 mm high mattress or solid wood frame + 140 mm high mattress

We recommend using our mattresses.

Gap between two CLASSIC STACK BEDs
The following drawing shows the gaps that arise when two CLASSIC STACK BEDs are stacked. This largely depends on the respective position of the angles and can thus be adapted to your own needs.

Scope of delivery and condition
Unlike seen in most pictures of the STACK BED, the scope of delivery only includes a bed frame. Slatted frame and mattress are not included in the delivery. The STACK BED is delivered disassembled and must be assembled on-site; appropriate assembly instructions as well as all necessary fittings and tools are included in the delivery.
Shipping:
Shipping is done via freight forwarding or through the local specialist retailer.

Stacking, deep stacking, high stacking? We have summarised the most important information so that no questions remain unanswered:

  1. What is included with the stacking lounger?
Contrary to what you see in most pictures of the stacking bed, the scope of delivery only consists of a bed frame. The slatted frame and mattress are not included.
  2. How is the stacking bed delivered?
The stacking bed is delivered disassembled and must be assembled on site; corresponding assembly instructions and all necessary fittings and tools are included in the delivery.
  3. External slatted frames / cut-outs for our slatted frames
We make sure that our slatted frames have a small cut-out at the head and foot. This is necessary to insert the slatted frames into the stacking bed. Without this cut-out, the slatted frame can collide with the screws on the inside of the bracket and cannot be inserted correctly. Unfortunately, we are therefore unable to guarantee the accuracy of fit for third-party slatted frames.
  4. What material is the stacking bed made of?
The production is made of 9-ply laminated wood; the material thickness is 15 mm. You can find an explanation of our CPL coating in our blog.
  5. Which slatted frames & mattresses do we recommend?
We have already made a suitable selection for you under each stacking bed. Simply scroll to the bottom of the page on the respective stacking bed detail page.
  6. Which slatted frame heights and mattress heights are suitable?
Classic: Slatted frame + 140 mm high mattress or solid wood frame + 100 mm high mattress Comfort: Slatted frame + 140 mm to max. 180 mm high mattress or solid wood frame + 140 mm high mattress. Please also see our FAQ "Space between two stacked beds".
  7. What exactly is the difference between comfort height and classic height?
The difference is exactly 40 mm, i.e. the comfort height is 40 mm higher overall than the classic version. When stacked, this results in a difference of 80 mm.
Classic stacking lounger: 235 mm individually, two loungers stacked 400 mm
Comfort stacking lounger: single 275 mm, two loungers stacked 480 mm
  8. What does the Classic / Comfort stacking lounger weigh?
The frame itself weighs between 17-19 kg (depending on the version); including the frame and mattress, a lounger frame weighs approx. 39 kg.
  9. How wide is the stacking lounger as a double bed / standing next to each other?
The external dimensions of the stacking bed are of course determined by the selected width and length plus the thickness of the material. In principle, the external dimensions are +30 mm in length and width. For 900 x 2000 mm internal dimensions, this corresponds to 930 x 2030 mm. In the case of a double bed consisting of 2 x 900 x 2000 mm beds, this would therefore correspond to an external dimension of 1860 x 2030 mm.
  10. Can comfort height and normal height be stacked together? Yes, that's no problem. Classic and Comfort height can be stacked on top of each other. However, it is important to note that there is a height difference of 40 mm when the two versions are stacked next to each other.
  11. How many stackable loungers can be stacked on top of each other?
We recommend not exceeding a stacking height of 10 loungers.
  12. What are the external and internal dimensions of the stacking lounger?
The inside dimensions are reflected in the lying surface. The outer dimensions are +30 mm wider than those of the lying surface. See also point 9.
  13. Maximum load / maximum weight of the stacking bed?
The maximum load of the stacking bed depends largely on the selected slatted frame.
  14. Can the mattress base also be used individually?
Yes, the stacking bed can also be used individually. This turns the stacking bed into a kind of futon bed.
  15. Is the stacking bed the original?
Yes, this stacking lounger is the original by Rolf Heide. The design by the renowned designer dates back to 1966.
  16. What space is created between the mattresses when two stacking beds are placed next to each other?
The space between two mattresses is exactly 30 mm.
  17. Can the mattress base be unstacked / taken apart on its own?
We recommend that two people are always involved in stacking and unstacking.
  18. Can the FLAI ADD-ONS be attached to the stacking bed?
No, unfortunately the FLAI ADD-ONS do not fit the stacking lounger. This is due to the different material thickness of the two products. The FLAI bed has a material thickness of 18 mm, the stacking bed 15 mm.
  19. How much storage space is there under the stacking bed?
The distance between the floor and the bed is 100 mm for the classic version and 130 mm for the comfort version.
  20. Why is the bed particularly suitable for children's rooms?
The stacking function of the bed means that one bed can be turned into two beds in no time at all. This means that one of the two beds can be converted into a guest bed in no time at all.
  21. Where can I find spare parts and screw sets?
You can find screw sets here. For other spare parts, please contact Mrs Uhlendorf. She is responsible for spare parts and complaints. Iris Uhlendorf, 04453 98 23 44, i.uhlendorf@muellermoebel.de
  22. How do I avoid different bed heights with different configurations?
Please refer to our FAQ "Spacing between two stacking beds" under "Technical information".

FAQ

What does HPL and CPL mean?
CPL stands for Continuous Pressed Laminates. HPL stands for High Pressure Laminates (HPL with a thickness of > 2 mm are according to standard EN 438 compact panels).

What is special about the HPL coating on our black matte furniture?
Our HPL laminate impresses with its high abrasion, impact, and scratch resistance. It is ideal for horizontal as well as heavily used surfaces. The super matte surface feels velvety warm and is characterized by its excellent anti-fingerprint properties. This makes our HPL laminate unique and universally applicable.

Are there any special care instructions for our HPL coating?
The HPL coating does not require special care due to its resistant and hygienic, dense surface. The surface is generally easy to clean. It is important to note that sanitary cleaners or cleaning agents with abrasive components should not be used for cleaning, as such cleaners can cause changes in gloss level and scratches.

What distinguishes HPL and CPL?
The term CPL already provides a hint about the manufacturing process, meaning CPL is produced in continuously operating double belt presses with a pressing pressure between 30 and 70 bar and temperatures between 150°C and 170°C. Depending on the laminate thickness and press zone length, the feed rate varies between 8 and 15 m/min. HPL is produced in discontinuously operating multi-daylight presses with a pressing pressure between 50 and 90 bar and temperatures of > 120°C. Very often, the pressure in connection with the manufacturing process of laminates is also given in Mega-Pascals (MPa). The multi-daylight presses have between 10 and 20 levels, and each level accommodates approximately 8 laminate sheets with a nominal thickness of 0.50 to 0.80 mm. Depending on the press loading and the maximum temperature, the complete pressing cycle including cooling takes between 20 and 60 minutes.

Delivery through the retailer
Müller Möbelwerkstätten collaborates with a variety of furniture retailers. This allows us to have the furniture purchased from our online shop delivered to you through them. We send the furniture to the logistics center of the respective retailer, from where our competent partner takes over the processing of your order. They will contact you to arrange a delivery appointment and optional assembly booking.

1. Why is the goods not delivered directly to me?
In most cases, delivery through our retailer involves bulky goods that require increased logistical effort for delivery. If, for example, the order were delivered directly to you by a freight forwarder, this would correspond to delivery only to the curb. With our retailers, however, we have specially trained personnel who have been trained by us for the assembly and transportation of Müller Möbelwerkstätten furniture. Particularly noteworthy for the "delivery through our specialist retailer" service are:
Scheduled delivery according to desired date
Delivery behind the first lockable door

2. Are all furniture items delivered by the retailer?
No, in not all cases can we offer this service. This naturally depends on whether there is a retailer in close proximity. In addition, our small furniture items can regularly be shipped with a parcel service (GLS).

3. Assembly by our retail partner
Assembly can be booked separately at checkout in our online shop. The costs depend on the corresponding value of the goods. The option of assembly is, of course, not mandatory, but is recommended for selected furniture items due to their complexity. In addition to the actual assembly, this service offers further advantages:
Carrying upstairs to the apartment included
Subsequent disposal of packaging Furthermore, the service is recommended for selected furniture items due to their complexity, such as: Modular Plus wardrobe Plane wardrobe Flai wardrobe

Yes, in some countries (e.g., DE, AT, CH), we offer an assembly service. Click on "Premium Service" in the shopping cart, and your furniture will be assembled at your home by a specialist retailer for an additional fee.
