Rolf Heide
Furniture designer, interior designer, exhibition designer and creative management consultant: Hamburg designer Rolf Heide has made a name for himself both nationally and internationally over the past 60 years with timeless, functional designs in the field of interior and corporate design.
Like Dieter Rams and Ingo Maurer, Rolf Heide was one of the successful designers born in 1932. Together with others of his generation, he played a decisive role in shaping the German understanding of product design. From the very beginning, his work was characterized by the combination of craftsmanship and functional design. Building on an apprenticeship as a carpenter and subsequent studies in interior design at the former Muthesius School of Design in Kiel, he also developed the idea of selling furniture that could be dismantled by mail order at an early stage.
Since the late 1960s, Rolf Heide has designed numerous pieces of furniture and exhibition stands for Müller Small Living. These include the legendary STAPELLIEGE, which can be easily stacked on top of each other to save space and used as an additional guest bed if required. The timelessly elegant look with its curved, rounded frames is still unsurpassed today. At the same time, the designer also worked for other design-oriented companies such as Bulthaup, Gaggenau and Vorwerk.
Rolf Heide's work has won numerous awards and been shown in major exhibitions. Most recently, his STAPELLIEGE received the prestigious German Design Award 2019 in the "Design Classics and Re-editions" category.
Rolf Heide passed away on June 14, 2020 at the age of 88.
